Christie McHughes Barr, DVM
Dr. McHughes Barr was born in Harahan and grew up in Amite, Louisiana on a farm with plenty of animals. Caring for animals was a part of her life from early on. She graduated from Covington High School in 1996 and attended Southeastern Louisiana University acquiring a degree in biology with a concentration in zoology. She was accepted to Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine directly after graduating SLU. Her concentration was mixed animal veterinary care including small animals and equine. After graduating LSU SVM in 2004, she began her small animal general practice career in Covington and has practiced at 2 other small animal hospitals in the Covington and Mandeville areas.
Dr. McHughes Barr always wanted to be a practice owner, but timing business ownership with family life was always a balance. She has three little boys ages 18, 15, and 13. In 2014, she purchased the property where Crosspoint Veterinary Hospital went from being a thought to being a new build, state of the art veterinary hospital. In September 2015, Crosspoint Veterinary Hospital opened its doors, and the rest is history.
In 2025, Dr. McHughes Barr purchased Miller Animal Hospital located in the village of Folsom, a clinic that was established and owned by her friend, Dr. Normie Miller until her premature death in 2019. Dr. McHughes Barr felt a strong connection to Dr. Miller having grown up in the same area, knowing each other since childhood, and graduating from the same veterinary school four years apart. Called in some way to take up the reins for Dr. Miller and continue her mission of providing compassionate, responsible pet care for the folks in the Folsom area, Dr. McHughes Barr reopened the clinic as Village Veterinary Hospital in the fall of 2025.
Veterinary Medicine and client services should always be top priority according to the vision of Dr. McHughes Barr. The staff at Village Veterinary Hospital is beyond superb and your furry family member will always be our number one priority. Dr. McHughes Barr is very passionate about veterinary medicine. She serves on the board of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association as a member at large and is the incumbent President of the LVMA. She will always keep continuing education for herself, her staff, and her clients at the forefront to achieve and maintain an exceptional veterinary medical practice. Dr. McHughes Barr cannot wait to meet you and your family members.
